Today Room 13 had a visit from Avril to tell us all about the Chatbus service. Avril is a trained councilor and offers a friendly and non-judgmental ear for anyone who wants to talk. She explained the confidential booking system and gave everyone a small brochure that explained more about the service.

Kiwi Kids News and other great links
On the right hand side of the blog you may have noticed the 'USEFUL WEBSITES' area.
This area has links to some great websites including:
Mathletics
Te Ara - The New Zealand Encyclopedia
Free Rice - A fun word/spelling game that helps feed the world
Added today is a link to an excellent website for New Zealand kids interested in news and current affairs. The website is called Kiwi Kids News. This may be a great place to visit for a quick read (it may also keep you up to date so you can ace the next quiz). May sure to check out the link when you have a spare 5 minutes!

A reminder for those of you who haven't returned your Student Photo Permission Agreement forms to make sure to do this ASAP. Once all the forms are in we can upload photos of your smiling faces in action on the sports field, in class and on trips (rather than these random smiling animals).
Well done Room 13 for another fantastic week.

Can you believe it? Week 3 is upon us already! This Tuesday (12th
February) we will be heading to our first Swimsation
session at Moana Pool. We will need to leave school around 12:15pm in order
to leave enough time for the walk to the pool and some time to get changed into
your togs. A big THANK YOU to the parent helpers how
have are giving up their time to come along with us.
Please be prepared for the day. You will need to bring the
following:
·
Togs
·
A towel
·
Goggles (optional)
·
An easy lunch that you can eat while you walk
Please note that the walk to Moana Pool will take approximately
30mins each way so depending on Dunedin’s weather you may like to bring either
some sunscreen and a sun hat or an umbrella or raincoat.
BRING IT ON!

Our thoughts about Tech
Mambo from Room 13.
This is an in-class post to explore how to create a new post. Below are some comments from Room 13 students about their first impressions of their time in technology.
"I'm in art and we have just finished making our art book covers and planning our clay bears. I have found putting on the cover a bit challenging but overall fun". - Magnus
"I am in foods and we first made smoothies - they were delicious and had lots of fruit in them" - Mason
"I'm in woodwork (hard tech). The first thing we did was plan our wooden books. We experimented with all the tools and I am really enjoying it". - Henry

In the beginning...
Welcome to the mighty Room 13 blog of 2013.
This blog will be used to celebrate some of the great achievements and activities that Room 13 will be involved in throughout the year. It is a great way to keep in touch with what has been going on in the classroom and provides us with a genuine way of incorporating ICT into our learning.
Please feel free to leave a comment on some of our posts - it would be great to know we have an audience!
There are a number of different pages on this blog including a 'homework' page, 'hot reads' page and of course a 'student gallery' page to display all the fantastic work that is done in Room 13. This blog is for all of Room 13 and it will be shaped by their ideas and skills so watch this space!
Looking forward continuing on from a great first few days and having a fantastic year!
Mr Cooke
